Some of the German officers who participated in the 20th July/Valkyrie plot to kill Hitler

Operation Valkyrie was the brainchild of several ranking military members and sanctioned by others (seen above). By 1943 when the tide of the war was turning against the Germans, those in high military positions felt that Hitler’s elimination would be prudent from a political, military, and public relations standpoint. If Hitler was done away with, then they could end the war and hopefully secure a slightly more favorable peace settlement than would have occurred had he been alive. As for public relations, the growing dissatisfaction with the Fuhrer and his brutal policies created an atmosphere that would more readily accept Hitler’s death than it would have earlier in his rule.
