Hauptmann Franz von Werra
In the Summer of 1941, following his dramatic escape from Canadian captivity, von Werra became Kommandeur of 1./JG 53 in Russia. On October 25, 1941, His aircraft came down in the sea near Vlissingen after developing engine trouble, and von Werra was drowned. He scored a total of 21 kills, including 13 in Russia.
